Provincial Councillors seek PMS intervention
A team of former Provincial Councillors of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) have pointed out to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa during a meeting that most of the provincial governors were ignoring them, with the exception of the Central Province Governor.
Former Provincial Councillor Channa Saliya alleged that they had not been provided with an opportunity to discuss matters pertaining to their areas with the governors, specially the governors of the Western Province, Eastern Province and North Central Province.
The Prime Minister had immediately contacted several governors by phone and requested them to immediately arrange a meeting with the Provincial Councillors to provide the opportunity for them to discuss important matters regarding their areas.
During the discussion,the former Provincial Councillors have requested the Prime Minister to consider providing duty free vehicles for them. The Prime Minister had pointed out that as the country was currently going through severe economic difficulties, steps will be taken to prepare a program in this regard later. They also requested the Prime Minister to consider include more of their nominees when the government provides jobs to low income earning families under the government’s 100,000 employment programme
