Chilaw Marians begin campaign on winning note

Chilaw Marians CC began their campaign for the Tier ‘A’ title on a winning note with a convincing nine-wicket win over Tamil Union in their SLC Premier League Inter-club match which concluded at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo yesterday.

Tamil Union went on to compile 298 runs in their second innings with Manoj Sarathchan­dra making a top score of 158.

Chilaw Marians CC, left with a simple target of 115 runs raced to victory with ease thanks to an unbeaten half century by Sumit Ghadigaonk­ar.

Meanwhile, the defending champions CCC recorded a comfortabl­e 145-run win over BRC in their match which ended at the BRC Grounds.

In the other matches NCC, Colts CC and Negombo CC secured first innings wins in high scoring matches played at the NCC Grounds, Colts Grounds and SSC Grounds.
