‘RELIYA’ GOES TO EUROPE

First show in Paris on Sunday

-

Veteran dramatist Dr. Sisil Gunasekara who needs no introduction to Sri Lankan theatre fans, will take his newest stage play ‘Reliya’ to Europe where it will go on the boards at seven venues starting from Sunday, February 16. Main actor Tennyson Cooray, Wimaleendra Kumari, Mahinda Pathirage and Thakshila Sewwandi will be playing the key roles in the play, while Sisil Gunasekara is the director. “Our team will be leaving on Thursday morning. Wimaleendra Kumari is playing the female lead. She is coming from Australia on the 12th and joining us to France,” said Sisil.

“Reliya which is 30 years old, has been one of the most popular plays but this is the first overseas tour that it is making. So it is a significant landmark. This has come amidst rumours that lead actor Tennyson Cooray is sick and is not acting and also that I am living in Australia and not getting involved in stage plays. I am very much in Sri Lanka and Tennyson is very much healthy,” he said.

The first show is in Paris on February 16 at 5.30 pm organised by Paris Subasadhaka Ekamuthuwa. After the play they have organised a musical night. On February 22 we will stage it in Verona where the show is organised by a team led by Mihiri Fernando.

The Milano show will be held on February 23 organised by a team led by Ruwan Ranasinghe.

On March 1, we will stage Reliya in Rome. All coordination work is done by Sudath Rohana who lives in Rome, Sisil Gunasekara said.

Sisil’s past plays like Puduma Lampuwa, Guwan Karanam, Ukussa, Rella, Vadamarachchi, Eliya and Mandela – Mandela were also hits.

Tennyson had been the biggest crowd puller in most of those popular plays.
