EXHIBITION BY ANGIE ALEXANDER

-

Inspired by life and nature, Angie Alexander is an artist who expresses stories on canvas purely through emotions. She recently exhibited a collection of paintings at Hype Studio, Colombo 3 under the brand name ‘art.by.angie.alex’ at which 8 exhibits were sold gaining further traction online with 4 more pieces sold the subsequent day.

Angie lets her art speak through the use of vibrant colours and shapes. “From the time I remember I’ve been sketching or painting! Or, I watched my siblings sketch or craft! Many prizes later, I lay down the brushes for marriage and motherhood. However, passions cannot be dormant for too long - so, here I am again brush and canvas in tow operating under the brand name art.by.angie.alex.”

Speaking about the process behind her paintings, Angie believes that as an artist, it is important for her to let her paintings find their own momentum and express what she feels at that present moment.

“My art is a free flow of strokes which takes form on canvas. Despite regular requests for pieces to be replicated, I rarely accede as it cramps my artistic vibe! One such time I replicated a painting thrice and it ended up looking so different each time!”.

Her work is for the most part acrylic, with an occasional dabble in oil and inspired chiefly from life and nature. Some of the notable paintings include creations under the themes ‘She’ - depicting women in all their diverse and resilient beauty; ‘One World’ depicting the natural beauty of the animal kingdom and ocean; ‘Tunes at Sunset’ – depicting musicians and dancers. Angie is now getting ready for her next exhibition to be held in July .
