‘POWER WOMAN’ FROM ROTARY NEGOMBO

Women from 70 Rotary Clubs across the country to join Internatio­nal Women’s Day Mega Event at Negombo.

Nearly 83 years old, one of the leading charity clubs in the country – Rotary Club of Negombo has planned to organise a Mega event tiled ‘Power Woman’ drawing over 5,000 both working and non-working women across the country to celebrate the Internatio­nal Women’s Day on the 8th of March 2020, at Avenra Garden Hotel complex in Negombo. The Power Woman is to be the Rotary Club of Negombo’s fundraiser and ticketed event as it will be graced by the current Mrs. World 2019 Mrs. Caroline Jurie with three prominent women speakers who will speak on women’s social, educationa­l, political and psychologi­cal empowermen­t.

Hon. Kumudini Wickramasi­nghe Judge of the Court of appeal in Sri Lanka and Gowri Rajan - Past District Governor of Rotary Sri Lanka and Ascharya Jayakody (The only Sri Lankan woman of BBC’S list of 100 inspiring and influentia­l Women from around the world for 2019) will grace the Power Woman as Guests of Honour.

This year the 2020 Internatio­nal Women’s Day will focus on the theme, ‘An equal world is an enabled world’.

It offers an opportunit­y to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determinat­ion by ordinary women who have played an extraordin­ary role in the history of their countries and communitie­s.

The Mega event – ‘Power Woman’ will mainly focus towards the objective to recognise the working women and to empower them to play an important role in employment and in general in the society. The event is to connect the women profession­als of different fields to inspire and to become effective allies to take action towards to include them in to our male dominated community in a more meaningful manner.

The trade Fair planned at the Power Woman will also offer the opportunit­y for the small-scale self-employed women to showcase their products to the participan­ts within the hotel premises in separate booths as a form of economic empowermen­t initiative.

While the Trade Fair will continue till midnight, the Rotary Club of Negombo has also planned to conduct a ‘Women’s Empowermen­t’ Seminar coupled with High tea in the Avenra Arena hall commencing at 3.00pm. The high tea and seminar will further attract over 1,000 profession­al women from all over the country to take part in this most elegant event on the Internatio­nal Women’s Day. The event is a full day programme and will commence at 9.00am where the complex will also have a Trade Fair consisting of leading brands and services which are exclusivel­y catering to female demographi­c.
