EC initiates countrywide consultations on roadmap for general elections

The Election Commission moves ahead with countywide consultations with the district level election authorities and the poll monitoring groups on the evolution of a roadmap to conduct the parliamentary elections in a Covid-19 controlled environment, an official said yesterday.

Commission’s Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya told Daily Mirror that his office had consultations with the district level election authorities and poll monitors in Anuradhapura, Colombo and Hambantota. He said another meeting would be conducted in Kandy today. Later, he said another main discussion

would be arranged in Colombo. “We need to have guidelines to conduct the elections whenever the coronavirus disease is controlled,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will start hearing the petitions filed against the gazette notification announcing the dissolution of Parliament.
