Excise narcotic seize Rs.2.5mn illicit liquor from Kadawatha, Minuwangoda
A large stock of illicit liquor worth over Rs.2.5 million was seized from two locations in Kadawatha and Minuwangoda by the Excise Department Narcotic Unit last week. Colombo Excise Narcotic Unit on a tip-off raided a place in Horampella in Minuwangoda and seized a stock of Kasippu worth over Rs.1.5 million along with two men who had carried out the illicit business.they recovered 80 litres of brew along with distilling utensils used by the suspect to manufacture the liquor.
Meanwhile,the sleuths raided another place in Ihalakaragahamula area in Kadawatha and arrested a person with 30 litres of illicit liquor worth over Rs.1 million. A senior Excise official told the
Daily Mirror that both the places have distributed their produce to Gampaha and surrounding areas when curfew was imposed during the Covid-19 lockdown.

OIC Colombo Excise Narcotic Unit Chief Inspector K. P. S. Pathirana and Inspector Janaka Dias with the team of Excise Guards Sameera Basnayake,indika Jayasinghe,aruna Chandrasekara,dilum Perera,thusitha Hettiwatta and Nimal Kasthuri on the instructions of Deputy Excise Commissioner Kapila Kumarasinghe and Excise Superintendent Chanaka Nanayakkara.
The suspects were to be produced before Minuwangoda and Mahara Magistrate’s Courts respectively.
