Ruhuna University launches ‘Govi Nena’ home gardening app today
‘Govi Nena’ a mobile-based information system for home gardners developed by a team of researchers of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Ruhuna in collaboration with the University of Colombo School of Computing and the Western Sydney University of Australia is to be launched by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna senior professor Sujeewa Amarasena at the Senate Hall of the university today.
With the government’s initiative to promote the cultivation of one million home gardens, the ‘Govi-nena’ research team developed the online mobile platform to guide farmers step-by-step on the cultivation process from soil preparation to harvest.
The project has been funded by Accelerating Higher Education Expansion And Development Project (AHEAD), Research, Inovation and Commercialisation Grants (RIC Grants), Hayleys Agriculture, Agstar PLC, Horticulture Crop Research And Development Institute (HORDI) and the Department of Agriculture.
