Bank of Ceylon’s (BOC) convenience-driven mobile banking app, ‘B-app’ now comes with the self-enabling facility.

Customers are now empowered to download and register themselves for this facility without visiting a branch.

There is no question that the technological revolution has brought a dramatic change to the wealth and well-being of societies globally. BOC has stepped in to empower its customers and the country’s economy by incorporating novel digital technologies to add convenience and affordability to the Sri Lankan payment system, to enhance the well-being of the Sri Lankan society.

Further expanding the potential of the app in order to empower customers, it can be installed and activated in a smartphone by using few simple instructions.

In order to register, first of all, B-app will have to be downloaded to a smartphone. As for an Android version phone, it can be downloaded via Google Play Store or if it is an Apple iphone (IOS), it will have to be downloaded via App Store. After this step, the customer can either enrol and self-register for the facility or visit a nearest BOC branch for further assistance.

If the customer already posses an Nfcenabled debit card with an already registered active mobile number with the bank, the customer himself can activate the BOC app on the phone by following simple steps.

The first step would be to select the B-app icon in your smartphone. Then click on the ‘Sign In’ as shown on the screen. In order to register yourself, click on ‘New to Online Banking- Register Now’ as the third step. Select the relationship type as ‘Debit Card Customer’ and continue.

Type your debit card number in the required box, followed by selecting your country. The next step would be to insert your mobile telephone number and your email address. Finally, type the ‘code’ that appears on the screen, following the same sequence and click on continue.

Once you have completed these steps, an SMS alert will be sent to your registered mobile number with the bank stating the onetime password (OTP), which you will have to submit to the required box. Afterwards, you will be requested for your debit card pin/personal identification number, expiry date of the debit card as mentioned on the card itself, as in month/ year and finally to enter the CVV-2 number, as mentioned on the back of the card.

After completing these steps, you have officially registered yourself to B-app and now it’s time to create a secure password that has eight to 12 characters and contains at least one capital letter, one simple letter and numeric digits within the password. After completing this step, you will have to ‘log out’ and ‘log in’ with your new password.

With your first log in as a fresh user, ‘terms and conditions’ related to use of B-app will appear on the screen. You are required to carefully read it through and click on the ‘Accept’ button to say that you are complying with the terms and conditions. What you will receive next on the screen are several security questions in which you will have to select the most relevant questions and save answers for those questions registering for the ‘self-unlock’ facility, in case your B-app has been locked mistakenly. Therefore, it is required to remember the answers that you have registered here. Once you have completed this step, it can be considered a successful registration.
