Inactive Central Bank of Sri Lanka

- RETIRED BANKER

Well done your Excellency the President for the professional way you are handling the government machinery to streamline the services for the citizens of our motherland. Sri Lanka needs a Leader, Administrator like you for which we have been waiting for so long, but not in vain.

CBSL staff will not feel as they are paid the highest in the banking industry

Let me come to the point. I am glad that you called a spade a spade. In my opinion Central Bank of Sri Lanka is totally responsible for the collapsed two finance companies in recent times, The Finance and ETI.

No doubt, monitoring was not done effectively. Their efficiency is so good, they couldn’t find a buyer for The Finance Co., for the last 12 years. May be highly qualified but not practical and without human touch. They are also sons and daughters of parents either in service or on retirement perhaps and it will come to them sooner or later.those poor depositors retired senior citzens who have sweated for the country, have lost their life long savings and monthly income for so many months.

CBSL staff will not feel as they are paid the highest in the banking industry and even after their retirement they enjoy some of the benefits including medical reimbursements.

How do Central Bank fund such benefits as they are not a profit making entity.all tax payers money I suppose.

We very well remember when bank employees went on strike asking for a salary increase stating that their output is much more and hold greater responsibilities than government servants, the then Finance Minister Dr. N. M. Perera’s answer was “Not to give any increases but to get the full potential of Government servants.”those were the days.

Government announced that TFC depositors will be paid upto Rs.600,000/= from 7th June 2020. Even that could not planned methodically with Peoples Bank.

Peoples Bank should have grabed this opportunity and would have converted those TFC customers to themselves.

We appeal to the President to use your good offices in order get back our life savings without any further delay.

With your many great ideas and good governance we have no doubt that you will enforce accountability and responsibility on all services, may it be the Government or the Private Sector for their actions.
