UNP IS NOT CENTRED ON FAMILIES UNLIKE OTHER PARTIES: RUWAN
UNP is not a party which is centred on families unlike other parties, it’s Deputy General Secretary Ruwan Wijewardene said yesterday. Speaking during an election meeting in Mahara Mr. Wijewardene said UNP belongs to those who work for the party at the grass-root level.
“SLFP was centred on Bandaranaike’s, SLPP is centred on Rajapaksa’s. Even Samagi Jana Balawegaya ( SJB) is centred on its leader Sajith Premadasa. However, UNP belongs to you,” Mr. Wijewardene told the party supporters.
He said UNP is a party which had rendered a yeoman service to the nation. “UNP even worked towards safeguarding democracy even when in the opposition,” he said.
UNP Deputy General Secretary charged that 25 percent of Sri Lanka’s forests have been vested under Divisional secretaries under the present government.
He said forests have to come under the purview of Department of Forestry. “People should focus on developments such as these when they vote at the general election.” he said.
Mr. Wijewardene was appointed Bala Mandala leader of Kelaniya yesterday by the party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe while Arjuna Ratnatunga was appointed District Organiser of Gampaha.
