Modern day lifestyles require most of us to be busier than we were yesterday. Our lives are bound by more commitments and to-do accomplishments than that of our parents. Certain commitments forces us to embrace some lifelong changes, some more drastic than others. Migrating to a foreign country, shifting your residences closer to your work place, children’s school or day care, working long hours in compliance with your client or parent company overseas are typical changes we have to adapt in the process of climbing up the corporate and social ladder.

While most of us struggle to fulfill and maintain the right balance between commitments and responsibilities, we are sometimes left with compromising as the only option in terms of choices we have to make. Our choices affect not only us, but also our loved ones. Parents are the worst affected category in such a dilemma.

Being away from your parents or loved ones as a result of these choices is somewhat common in modern families. Regardless what your commitments demand, you cannot neglect certain responsibilities with utmost importance such as looking after your parents and loved ones during the last stage of their lives. This is a time they too highly rely on you.

Taking good care of your parents or loved ones in your absence is a challenging task. If you are living overseas or far away from them, the situation is much more difficult and you would probably become very helpless without having to visit them often or to be by their side when they need you. Most of us opt to hire a maid or a care taker to live with and take care of your elders. However, finding a suitable and trustworthy caretaker whom you can rely on is one daunting task. The options were very limited until now.

Identifying the huge vacuum in this field of service, Qwest launched Qwest Care, the first Companion Care service to be established in Sri Lanka. Though it is relatively a new concept in Sri Lankan context, Companion Care is a very popular and widely accepted type of care service in many countries and identified to be a very viable solution to fulfill the needs for this type of care.

Qwest Care, the newest addition to the Qwest family, is a befriending service offering friendship, care and support to those who require companionship and assistance for a variety of reasons. Qwest has become a household name in the hospitality, travel and tourism industry in Sri Lanka. Launched in 2005, Qwest’s first venture, Qwest Destinations is one of the most prominent entities specialized in inbound and outbound travel, operating tours to over 100 destinations in the world. As of 2020, Qwest Destinations prides to have taken over 10,000 travellers to various parts of the world. With this vast experience in the sector over the years, Qwest launched Qwest CARE in June 2020 taking another leap in the industry by launching the first ever Companion Care service in Sri Lanka.

After thorough consideration of types of care the would-be clients require, Qwest Care has carefully identified a range of services to its care receivers. Two of the most regular services are telephone conversations and visits at pre-agreed intervals. An instance of a “Telephone Conversation”will be up to an average of 30 minutes. These telephone conversations are aimed at saying “hello again” and having a conversation with care receivers to ensure they are doing fine, and also to find out if they would require any assistance. A casual chit-chat of this manner will prevent our care receivers from feeling isolated and lonely.

“Visiting” is another main service provided by Qwest Care since almost all other services are offered in the form of a visit. It could be a routine visit of up to an average of 2 hours as part of the agreed schedule to sit down with our care receivers to have a good laugh with them, to share some life experiences or to listen to one of their heroic stories they would love to share with others. Qwest Care is comprised of another entity- “Qwest Gifts” specialized in gifts. Each visit will also bring smiles to their faces with attractive gifts such as a hampers or hobby items.

The visits could even be a quick drop-in to run an errand, or in order to assist them or to attend to something they cannot do themselves. There could be instances where the Qwest Team would require skilled support such as of a plumber to fix a broken

water pipe or of an electrician to fix an electrical issue at the care receiver’s residence. They will coordinate with relevant skilled parties to get the work done. The cost involved with such fixing or maintenance will be handled very transparently and such transactions will be informed to the client in advance and prior approval will be obtained before the actual work begins.

Accompanying care receivers for their tasks is another service offered by Qwest Care. It could be a visit to the doctor, airport pick-up or drop, a round of shopping or any other appointments. Qwest will ensure your loved ones are in safe hands from the moment they are picked up until their drop-off. Qwest Care will also make arrangements to assist them with receiving spiritual services from clergy and visiting religious venues or events. Qwest Care will not forget to arrange surprises on the days they treasure such as their birthdays or anniversaries.

All care receivers are assigned with two Qwest Care team members whom they guarantee as responsible and caring individuals. The same two individuals will attend to the services of respective care receiver, as they strive to provide Qwest Care services as a friend to care receivers more than a service provider.

Qwest Care has introduced a number of monthly service packages for clients to choose from depending on the requirement and affordability. In addition to that, clients are welcome to request for a customized service package for their parents or loved ones.
