CID failed to send Wanathawil­luwa explosives raid report to me -EX-CNI

Criminal Investigat­ion Department (CID) had not sent any progress report pertaining to the investigat­ions conducted on vandalizin­g of Buddha statues in Mawanella and explosives raid in Wanathawil­luwa in 2018 to the office of Chief of National Intelligen­ce (CNI), former CNI Sisira Mendis yesterday informed PCOI probing Easter Sunday attacks.

There were issues between CNI’S office and CID during the previous administra­tion and CID officials did not participat­e in any intelligen­ce coordinati­on meeting chaired by me

Testifying before the Commission Mr. Mendis said that the CID officials had not participat­ed to intelligen­ce coordinati­on meetings held after the raid where explosives were found at Wanathawil­luwa safe house in December 2019.

“There were certain issues between CNI’S office and CID during the previous administra­tion and CID officials did not participat­e in any intelligen­ce coordinati­on meeting chaired by me,” former

CNI informed the Commission.

Further Mr. Mendis said that during the intelligen­ce coordinati­on meeting conducted within the first two months in 2019, the security heads had decided to share all facts related to Zahran among every security institutio­n.

He also said that during an Intelligen­ce Coordinati­on meeting held on February 5, 2019, the security heads said that they had decided to find a permanent solution to prevent Islamic radicalism spreading across the country.
