‘Hopeless Apeksha’: Sorry state of Maharagama Cancer Hospital

-

I write to express my discontent about the services of the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital and make a plea to the relevant authorities to look into the following crucial matter as soon as possible. Patients receiving Radiotherapy treatment, who are personally known to me have informed me that the Radiotherapy machines in the hospital breakdown frequently. These patients have missed several days of treatment due to this problem.

Alarmingly, I hear that two new machines are merely kept in the hospital without making any use of them. If this is true, why are these machines not being used when the other machines are out of order? This is only one of the many complaints made by the patients who receive treatment at the hospital.

Cancer is a serious illness that needs to be treated with no delays and disruptions to treatment schedules.this sorry state of our Cancer Hospital is a disgrace to the country’s public health system and to the medical professionals who tirelessly work for the wellbeing of the sick.

If the current management of the hospital is not efficient enough or concerned enough to treat patients who cannot afford to seek medical assistance in private hospitals, where apparently doctors receive large sums of money when they treat cancer patients, immediate action should be taken to hand over the management of the Cancer Hospital to professionals who are fit to run it.
