The relaunch of the Four Leafed Clover

- text Sheshan Dias

Previously well known as one of the best Irish Pub/restaurants in Colombo, “The Four Leafed Clover” while still sticking to their original roots is now also branching out to the Italian side of things as well. Having never been here before and having heard a lot of good reviews about it, I was extremely eager to go check out what all the hype was about. PHOTOS NISAL BADUGE

Ambience

The one thing that ensures you are drawn to this place right from the start is their ambience. With a separate side of the restaurant dedicated to the pictures of famous Irish Personalities, Leprechauns on cushion covers and alcohol remnants hanging from the ceiling, it's just Irish through and through. The restaurant itself is very relaxed and chilled out with a band playing winding down music in the background. However down at the Pub, if you do end up getting a little tipsy, fear not, there's ample space to dance and showcase your moves, although I'm not sure if that sort of behaviour might be frowned upon.

The Food

Their menu is quite large and offers quite a variety of culinary delights. From

Soups and Salads, to delicious, authentic Italian Pizzas, pastas, a variety of meat dishes and

juicy burgers, there's no lack of delicious food items for you to choose from. At the launch we were able to try out mini versions of many of their items which I thought tasted great.

My favourite was the Beef

Wellington. It had a very earthy, strong taste to it. The beef was succulent and juicy with the pastry adding that crunchy element to it. It was a very wholesome dish and I loved it!

There was also a Roasted

leg of Lamb which tasted heavenly. The meat was well done and extremely succulent with a slight aftertaste of mint as well which came from

a touch of Rosemary Jus.

Their Seafood Lasagna wasto die for! With layer after layer of a generous spread of cheese combined with a variety of meat like shrimp and cuttlefish this Lasagna was the joy of any seafood lover.

The mini Pizzas, Baked Modha, Battered prawn and crispy

chicken were the other delicious treats that were offered which all tasted really good in their own aspects.

We could also choose from cheesy pasta or Roast Paan Kottu which were prepared fresh at an action station. The roast paan kottu is not something you find everywhere and although this isn't really Irish nor Italian but plain Sri Lankan, I can honestly say everyone at the launch really enjoyed this. The bread tasted soft and fresh and was heavily spiced up with all the other ingredients of a normal kottu. It was amazing!

The Cheesy Pasta was up to expectations as well. It was really creamy, cheesy and not at all oily. Paired up with the other meat dishes of the night, this was the perfect carb to complement.

Drinks

They have quite an extensive menu for Drinks as well ranging from Fresh Juices,

Shakes, Mocktails and Cocktails aside from their usual alcoholic beverages. I opted to try out their signature Irish Coffee. I tried it first without adding any sugar which was a big mistake, because it was really bitter. But with the addition of sugar the flavours really came together and it was the perfect jolt of coffee that helped me stay alert the whole evening. I spent the rest of the time sipping an unhealthy number of virgin mojitos as it was the ideal drink that complimented all the food. (At least for me. I must have had about 6 in total). But by all means make sure to try out their other drinks as well as you get nothing but the best at “The Four Leafed Clover”

Conclusion

All in all this is a great place to spend some time with your family or friends and enjoy some great food and drinks in a peaceful setting. Being "Deliciously Italian and Traditionally Irish" I'm sure if Conor Mcgregor were to visit Sri Lanka this is one place that would make him feel at home! So make sure you check it out as well!
