Constantly innovating and pioneering digitalisation in telecommunication in Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) takes bill payments to the next level with a cashless bill payment facility, through the addition of QR codes on all SLT bills.

Ensuring a safe and hassle-free process from start to end in the experience with SLT has been an objective of the country’s national telecommunication service provider throughout. The dynamic QR code system now makes even the final transaction convenient and effective.

As such, payments for all SLT bills can be made through any Lanka Qr-certified payment app. Scanning the QR code on the SLT bill from the designated banking apps will lead the customer to the bill payment transaction effortlessly.

The facility for central bill collection of this process is provided by Bank of Ceylon (BOC), a partnership that merges two giants from their respective fields to bring out the most effective and safe bill payment facility. The agreement between

SLT and BOC was exchanged by SLT Chief Executive Officer Kiththi Perera and BOC General Manager Sugath Gunasekara.

SLT Group Chief Finance Officer Sanjeewa Samaranayake, BOC Assistant General Manager Aruna Kumara and other representatives from both companies also participated in the launch ceremony.

“We are proud to partner with SLT to introduce the first-ever dynamic QR for bill payments in Sri Lanka with a revolutionary payment experience. Now customers can enjoy the freedom of making bill payments anywhere at any time with a single click using BOC Smartpay or with any other Lanka Qr-certified payment app. The recent pandemic situation has created positive reinforcement on customer perception towards digital banking and driving this momentum through digital innovations would be the ‘new normal’ post COVID 19,” stated BOC General Manager Sugath Gunasekara.

“In a dynamic and evolving industry such as telecommunication, it is SLT’S objective to keep upgrading our products and services that will provide convenience to our customers. The inclusion of the dynamic QR code bill payment facility is another step towards taking our services to a more cashless, yet secure process. Moving with global technology is important to keep abreast and we, as SLT, take it as our responsibility to inculcate tech-savvy behaviour in our society because we are in the best position to do so. While experiencing the convenience of QR code bill payments, we also will be initiating a new practice among our customers,” stated Perera.

The bill payment transactions are assured of the safest methods as a result of partnerships with reputed banks in the country.
