Imprisoned gangster ‘ID’S accomplice arrested in Mt Lavinia

Four including ex airman accomplice­s of ‘Bunty’ arrested with drugs Inmate found with mobile phone in rectum at Welikada Prison

An accomplice of imprisoned underworld gangster Ihalagamag­e Darshana alias ‘ID’ has been arrested with 3 grams of heroin by the STF in Mount Lavinia.

The 35-year-old suspect, Kodippili Patabendig­e Nidesh Priyanga Silva, is a resident of Mount Lavinia and was arrested following a tip-off.

Gangster ‘ID’ is currently in prison over possessing a hand grenade and heroin.

Investigat­ions revealed that the arrested suspect was handling financial affairs of ID and had been operating as his main drug distributo­r as well.

Meanwhile, the Thalangama Police Anti-corruption Division arrested four accomplice­s of organised criminal ‘Battaramul­le Bunty’ for possession of drugs.

Battaramul­le Bunty was arrested by the Thalangama Police a few weeks ago in the Akuregoda area in Battaramul­la with heroin.

Police said a 40-year-old woman, a 35-year-old retired Air Force Officer and two youths aged 20 and 21 were among those arrested with 20 grams of ice, 5 grams of heroin, 40 grams of Kerala Ganja.

The police also recovered Rs. 15,000 in cash and several mobile phones from the suspects’ possession.

The suspects were to be produced in the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court.

Meanwhile, Special Task Force personnel, who conducted a search operation at the Welikada Prison recovered a mobile phone and a battery in the rectum of an inmate on Tuesday.

The inmate was referred to the Colombo National Hospital to remove the mobile phone and the battery. The STF also recovered a SIM card in possession of another inmate at the Welikada prison.
