Nicholas Pooran’s fielding was beyond my imagination, says his father
Nicholas Pooran was told, “you can’t play cricket...”.
Five years ago when the West Indies wicketkeeper batsman met with a car accident in Trinidad and had to undergo two major surgeries on both his legs within a span of one week, doctors initially ruled out a return to cricket.
All had lost hope but not Pooran himself. On Sunday, he made a sensational effort to deprive Sanju Samson well deserved six.
Nicholas Pooran produced something so extraordinary near the boundary line that even the ‘God of Cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar couldn’t believe his eyes.
Pooran, who will turn 25 on October 2, made a full-stretched dive while hanging in the air, as he held onto the ball before throwing it back inside the boundary line to save his team’s a vital six runs.
It made his team fielding coach Jonty Rhodes, another greatest fielder of his era, stand up and bow down in appreciation of the catch.
“It was beyond my imagination,” Lawrence Pooran, Nicholas’ father, speaking from Trinidad, said. “Yes, I was watching the match and his fielding can easily be compared with Rhodes”.
“The credit for this superb piece of fielding goes to his hard work, dedication, diet sacrifice and discipline,” he added.
