GOOD NEIGHBOURS

-

Good neighbourliness comes to the fore during a crisis, as it did during the lockdown. Neighbours reached out to each other in countless ways. I am fortunate that my neighbours go out of their way for me at all times. The security guard of my immediate neighbour , rushes out each time I leave or return home to open the car door for me. The guard right opposite is the same, keeps an eye to help whenever a need arises. I have two good friends living on the same road, Yamuna and Mala who reach out to me in ways which are too numerous to mention. It was good to hear a friend mention the kindness shown to her by complete strangers, especially as I had noticed the decline of courtesy and respect for elders in the more privileged among us . My friend had been standing outside her home waiting for a trishaw, when two young men travelling in a trishaw, got out, said they could walk and asked her to take the trishaw. A young policeman had also done the same for her. Her regular trishaw driver even brought her home cooked food during the lockdown. These gestures must be applauded and are a good example and inspiration to others.
