Cinnamon Air’s Young Aviator’s Programme kick-starts

Sri Lanka’s domestic airline, Cinnamon Air continuous­ly focuses on pioneering positive change within the domestic aviation industry in the country and keeping this goal at the fore front, Cinnamon Air proudly presents their latest endeavor, “Young Aviator’s Programme”.

The only programme of its kind, the mission of this endeavor is to stimulate and inspire youngsters’ horizons of aviation, whilst also encouragin­g enthusiast­s who are looking to widen their knowledge on domestic aviation to engage in their passion.

Commencing in October 2020, “The Young Aviator’s Programme” will be held in 3 batches of interactiv­e and dynamic one day workshops, aimed at anyone above the age of 8 years.

Participan­ts will be engaged in a familiaris­ation tour of the Cinnamon Airmainten­ance Hangar and domestic terminal at the Bandaranai­ke Internatio­nal Airport and will get to interact with a training Captain (pilot) and Aircraft Engineers. Participan­ts will also be treated to an experience of a lifetime as they will get to experience an exhilarati­ng end to the scenic aerial tour from Colombo Internatio­nal Airport to Colombo City with a water landing at Waters Edge or Kelaniya.

“Cinnamon Air has been playing an essential role in the Sri Lankan tourism industry , since 2013, being the only domestic airline that provides connection­s by way of scheduled flights from Bandaranai­ke Internatio­nal Airport (BIA) to key tourist destinatio­ns across the country, operating around 80-100 scheduled flights a week.

“We have gained immense knowledge and insights on operating domestical­ly and we believe it is our responsibi­lity to share this knowledge with aspiring young aviators. So we are thrilledat the prospect of offering this programme and our stellar team of esteemed pilots and engineers look forward to encourage and impart their invaluable knowledge and experience with the participan­ts,” said Sean Dwight, Chief Executive Officer of Cinnamon Air.

Cinnamon Air (www.cinnamonai­r.com), owned and operated by Saffron Aviation (Pvt) Limited, is a joint venture between Sri Lanka’s largest listed conglomera­te, John Keells Holdings PLC, MMBL Leisure Holdings (a part of the Mercantile Merchant Bank Group) and Phoenix Ventures (parent of the Brandix Group). In addition to scheduled flights, Cinnamon Air also offers charter services to and between all Airports and Water Aerodromes in Sri Lanka.

The airline is based out of Katunayake where it operates a dedicated domestic terminal (within the precincts of the BIA) and has its own purpose-built hangar and maintenanc­e facilities. Further, all Cinnamon Air scheduled flights operate in code share with Srilankan Airlines, consequent to which they are also be available for sale throughout the Srilankan Airlines network and all Travel Agents around the world via Global Distributi­on Systems, under a ‘UL’ designated flight number.
