Visit Support, Buy
On WTF this week, I visit the CAN market, what an amazing experience it was to meet some amazing entrepreneurs who have come together to display some of the best creative items which are there in the market today.
Together we CAN support micro businesses to bounce back post covid - Creative Isle, in collaboration with Colombo City Centre, have launched the Ceylon Artisan Network (CAN) Market, the first ongoing 3-day weekend market, to be held at the Colombo City Centre – Atrium every weekend from 10am to 9pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The CAN Market was created as a platform to support microentrepreneurship from across the island.
The weekend market is packed with over 70+ vendors from around Sri Lanka showcasing their export quality products at wholesale rates, whilst allowing them the opportunity to form new trade partnerships with bulk buyers. Focusing on sustainable and communitydriven businesses, the fair will consist of home & lifestyle products, fashion & accessories, artisan food products, herbal teas & Ayurveda cosmetics, soaps & fragrances, traditional crafts promoting all things
Sri Lankan.
The CAN Market further supports features innovative products not seen in supermarkets. King Coconut soda, Sour sup and Waraka drinks, Cashew drinks , Polpala & Thebu teabags Dehydrated fruits, vegies and mouthwatering artisan sauces and spreads, vegan and organic. I’m so happy to know that some of these products have already been picked by a few big names to get on their shelves.
I was amazed to see Jurassic Park come alive at CCC with High Quality Natural rubber Dinosaur Toys made in Kandy with cane and reed products all the way from Mannar the list of exciting discoveries go on.
The lady who is so passionate about it is like Mrs. pepper pot full of energy and love towards all these vendors only to uplift their lifestyles and bring them off these post Covid times.
Keshini Ann Suraweera says “The crux of this project was birthed during the imposed COVID-19 lockdown, when most creative entrepreneurs experienced a downward trend in growth, stunting their ability to continue with their business efficiently. Identifying the gap in the current business landscape, I wanted to provide a comfortable central space where people from all over Sri Lanka could gather to showcase their raw talent, which may otherwise have been undiscovered simply due to the lack of a platform to present themselves.”
The CAN Market is such a great place to visit during the weekend and it’s all priced well so please buy and support.
