OF CAKES & BIRTHDAYS
Owing to Covid-19, which is being kept well under control, many have had to postpone their milestone birthdays. Ayoma decided to celebrate her milestone birthday, including those of all her friends who had missed celebrating their own, with an absolutely fun night at the rooftop of the Kingsbury. It was a wonderful evening and the highlight was inviting all those at the party who had turned sixty this year to join her in cutting an eight-foot cake along with her. This spectacular cake was baked and created by Hafsa of Cake Factory.
The cake not only looked fabulous but tasted delicious too. The masterpiece had to be seen to appreciate all the hard work that had gone into it. The theme of the cake was “you do not stop having fun when you get old. You get old when you stop having fun”
Each person who turned 60 had been moulded and depicted in various forms and placed strategically on the road from 60 going on to 70. The cake not only looked fabulous but tasted delicious too. The masterpiece had to be seen to appreciate all the hard work that had gone into it. The theme of the cake was “you do not stop having fun when you get old. You get old when you stop having Fun” and deserves to be featured as a unique creation in some cake magazine. A great night was had by all.
Ilika Karunaratne celebrated her birthday in her usual fashion by hosting a lunch at the Women’s International. Walking in it was such a pleasure to meet up with all the ladies who were there and were in good spirits. Ilika, draped elegantly in a sari was fussing around her guests as usual making sure that they were all comfortable and well looked after. The lunch was catered by JUC Caterers. A delicious spread of Sri Lankan food. The fruit trifle and Summer pudding that Ilika turns out herself were exceptionally delicious this year.
It was such a pleasant afternoon to meet up with the ladies who are in a cross section of professions from doctors, artists, hoteliers etc. It was a pleasure to meet people who could hold a lengthy conversation rather than those we meet at some celebrations who seem to only have cotton wool between their ears making it insufferable to even put up with them for more than a few minutes. Wishing Ilika a fabulous year to come.
