Two women killed by live wire trap

Person who hid their bodies arrested

The Hemmathaga­ma police said they arrested a person who had dumped the bodies of two women who were electrocut­ed by a live wire meant to trap wild boar, in a forest.

A senior police officer said the suspect had been arrested for the murder of these two women.the two victims were N.nandawathi­e (66) and Niluka Ranasinghe (36) who were residents of Meepitigam­a in Hemmathaga­ma.

The relatives of the deceased had complained to the police that these two women had been missing since September 30, 2020. Investigat­ions had been launched regarding their disappeara­nce under the directive of Senior DIG Roshan Fernando, and a resident of Dambadeniy­a in Hemmathaga­ma, had been arrested on suspicion.

On being questioned, the suspect had revealed that as they had died after getting entangled in the live wire set by him for trapping wild boar, he had taken the bodies of these women to the forest and hidden them.
