ST. JOSEPH’S CALLS FOR CALM AFTER PARENT TESTS POSITIVE

Vice Rector of SJC said that there was no need for panic

St. Joseph’s College, Colombo yesterday called for calm after the parent of a student tested positive for the coronaviru­s.

The school said that all necessary precaution­ary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the students,parents and staff.

When contacted by Daily Mirror, Vice Rector of St.joseph’s College, Colombo,rev.fr.ruwan Deshapriya said that there was no need for panic as immediate steps were taken to ensure the well-being of the affected family and those at school.several false claims with regards to the incident had circulated on social media while some attempts were also made to stigmatise the family,the school said.

Fr.ruwan Deshapriya said that all those who had come into contact with the student had been informed as soon as the mother tested positive for the virus. As of yesterday, the student and the other family members had not shown symptoms of the virus.

Meanwhile, issuing a statement, St. Joseph’s College, Colombo, said that it remained compliant to all safety regulation­s throughout and continues to monitor the Josephian community to ensure their safety. The school said that the affected parent is currently receiving treatment at a government facility while the family, including the student, have been quarantine­d as a precaution­ary measure.
