Dr. Bandara not removed, Director assumed duties: Govt.

Clarifying the removal of Medical Research Institute (MRI) Director Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara,state Minister Dr.sudarshani Fernandopu­lle said yesterday he was not removed from the post.

She said the Director appointed by the Public Services Commission (PSC) had been overseas on a training programme and returned to assume duties. The State Minister said this in response to a question posed by Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Thushara Indunil as to why Dr. Bandara was removed from the post. “Dr. Bandara was not removed. He was functionin­g as MRI’S Acting Director. The PSC had appointed Dr. P.V.N.P. Amarasingh­e as MRI Director and he was overseas on a training programme and has assumed duties on his return,”she said.
