The Poly­merase chain re­ac­tion (PCR) tests car­ried out on some 1,400 em­ploy­ees of the Minuwangod­a Ap­parel fac­tory where a num­ber Covid-19 pos­i­tive cases have been re­ported were com­pleted, Chief Epi­demi­ol­o­gist Dr. Su­dath Sa­ma­raweera said yes­ter­day.

“Now, the as­so­ciates of the pos­i­tive cases of the Minuwangod­a Ap­parel fac­tory clus­ter are be­ing traced and PCR tests on them are un­der­way,” Dr. Sa­ma­raweera said.

More­over, he said that the preg­nant woman, who tested pos­i­tive for COVID-19 at the Colombo Cas­tle Street Hos­pi­tal for Women yes­ter­day, was linked to the Minuwangod­a clus­ter.

“The woman has worked in a com­pany which pro­vides ser­vices to the Minuwangod­a Ap­parel fac­tory. There­fore, she falls into the Minuwangod­a fac­tory clus­ter,” Dr. Sa­ma­raweera added.

The woman, who de­vel­oped res­pi­ra­tory dif­fi­cul­ties, was sub­se­quently ad­mit­ted to the In­fec­tious Dis­eases Hos­pi­tal (IDH).

Mean­while, Dr. Sa­ma­raweera said the pub­lic can con­tact 1999 hotline for any in­quiry re­lated to Covid-19 and health is­sues on res­pi­ra­tory dis­eases. This hotline is avail­able 24 hours.
