All PCR tests at Minuwangod­a Apparel factory completed

Associates of the positive cases of the Minuwangod­a Apparel factory cluster are being traced

The Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests carried out on some 1,400 employees of the Minuwangod­a Apparel factory where a number Covid-19 positive cases have been reported were completed, Chief Epidemiolo­gist Dr. Sudath Samaraweer­a said yesterday.

“Now, the associates of the positive cases of the Minuwangod­a Apparel factory cluster are being traced and PCR tests on them are underway,” Dr. Samaraweer­a said.

Moreover, he said that the pregnant woman, who tested positive for COVID-19 at the Colombo Castle Street Hospital for Women yesterday, was linked to the Minuwangod­a cluster.

“The woman has worked in a company which provides services to the Minuwangod­a Apparel factory. Therefore, she falls into the Minuwangod­a factory cluster,” Dr. Samaraweer­a added.

The woman, who developed respirator­y difficulti­es, was subsequent­ly admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH).

Meanwhile, Dr. Samaraweer­a said the public can contact 1999 hotline for any inquiry related to Covid-19 and health issues on respirator­y diseases. This hotline is available 24 hours.
