UDA to con­struct eight ve­hi­cle parks in Colombo

Ur­ban De­vel­op­ment Author­ity has taken steps to con­struct eight ve­hi­cle parks in the Colombo city to re­duce the traf­fic con­ges­tion in the city to the barest min­i­mum. The pro­gramme com­menced with the con­struc­tion works of the ten sto­ried Tele­com ve­hi­cle park be­hind the Lake House. The project cost­ing Rs.1,113 will be funded by the UDA and it is the firstever multi-sto­ried ve­hi­cle park built by a gov­ern­ment in­sti­tu­tion.

Ad­dress­ing the in­au­gu­ral cer­e­mony Sec­re­tary to the Min­istry of Ur­ban De­vel­op­ment Sirin­i­mal Per­era said the con­struc­tion works of the main project would be com­pleted in four years.

He said the project had been planned in 2013 but stalled for a long time.

“It will be im­ple­mented as an ac­cel­er­ated project to avoid the traf­fic con­ges­tion ex­pe­ri­enced in the city. The UDA has planned to con­struct four sim­i­lar ve­hi­cle parks in the sub­urbs. The ten-sto­ried ve­hi­cle park will com­prise a shop­ping com­plex in the ground floor and seven res­i­den­tial houses on the tenth floor,” he fur­ther said. The project would be im­ple­mented un­der the State Min­is­ter of Ur­ban De­vel­op­ment Dr. Nalaka Go­da­hewa, Sec­re­tary to the Min­istry of Ur­ban De­vel­op­ment and Hous­ing Sirin­i­mal Per­era, Chair­man of the Ur­ban De­vel­op­ment Author­ity Har­shan De Silva and Di­rec­tor Gen­eral Prasad Ranaweera.
