UDA to construct eight vehicle parks in Colombo
Urban Development Authority has taken steps to construct eight vehicle parks in the Colombo city to reduce the traffic congestion in the city to the barest minimum. The programme commenced with the construction works of the ten storied Telecom vehicle park behind the Lake House. The project costing Rs.1,113 will be funded by the UDA and it is the firstever multi-storied vehicle park built by a government institution.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony Secretary to the Ministry of Urban Development Sirinimal Perera said the construction works of the main project would be completed in four years.
He said the project had been planned in 2013 but stalled for a long time.
“It will be implemented as an accelerated project to avoid the traffic congestion experienced in the city. The UDA has planned to construct four similar vehicle parks in the suburbs. The ten-storied vehicle park will comprise a shopping complex in the ground floor and seven residential houses on the tenth floor,” he further said. The project would be implemented under the State Minister of Urban Development Dr. Nalaka Godahewa, Secretary to the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing Sirinimal Perera, Chairman of the Urban Development Authority Harshan De Silva and Director General Prasad Ranaweera.
