Student-teacher clash leads to protest in Jaffna uni.

A tense atmosphere prevailed in the Jaffna campus on Thursday night (08) due to a clash between a group of students and the teachers.

Vice-chancellor Sri Sathgunarajah said several teachers and the security officers had intervened to settle a dispute between two groups of students involved in a clash. Formal investigation of the incident would be held and disciplinary action taken against the culprits. The students staged a protest yesterday in front of the university accusing the teachers of assaulting them.

They demanded immediate action against the teachers involved. However they called off the protest when the Vice-chancellor and the police met them and promised to hold a formal investigation.
