China celebrates

71st National Day at BMICH

The Sri Lanka China Society celebrated the 71 st National day of the People’s Republic of China on September 28 at the BMICH with the assistance of the Chinese Embassy of Sri Lanka.

The Chief guest at the occasion was Premier Mahina Rajapaksa. Minister of Health Pavitra Wanniarach­chi, former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and Hu Wei Charge d’ affaires of the Chinese Embassy participat­ed as special guests.

The keynote address was made by Prof. Sirimal Abeyratne, Professor in Economics at the University of Colombo. His topic was

Sri Lanka’s Post COVID-19 Economic Progress and ChinaLanka Relations.

Dr Palitha Kohona Designate ambassador to China and Mr Hu Wei Charge d ‘ affaires of Chinese Embassy also addressed the gathering.

Premier Rajapaksa

presented prizes to winners of the Asian Art Competitio­n held in Benxi, China.

Further to that the Sri Lanka China Society presented distinguis­hed guests with the first copies of the souvenirs published to mark the 71st anniversar­y ofchina.
