Baseball de­vel­op­ment re-starts with Teacher Train­ing Pro­grammes

The Sri Lanka Am­a­teur Baseball/soft­ball As­so­ci­a­tion (SLABSA) re­sumed their de­vel­op­ment ac­tiv­i­ties as they con­ducted three teacher train­ing pro­grammes in the Cen­tral Prov­ince, re­cently.

The pro­grammes were car­ried out with the bless­ings of the World Baseball/ Soft­ball Con­fed­er­a­tion, spon­sored by the In­ter­na­tional Olympic Com­mit­tee (IOC) through the Na­tional Olympic Com­mit­tee of Sri Lanka (NOC SL).

The teacher train­ing pro­grammes were suc­cess­fully held on Septem­ber 23, 24 and 25in three ed­u­ca­tional zones in the Cen­tral Prov­ince; namely, Kandy,

Wil­ga­muwa (Lag­gala) and Matale, and saw the ac­tive par­tic­i­pa­tion of over 150 coaches, Sports Of­fi­cers, Phys­i­cal Train­ing In­struc­tors (PTIS), and teach­ers, who dis­played great in­ter­est in learning about baseball which was a new sport for many of the at­ten­dees.

All par­tic­i­pants were awarded cer­tifi­cates for tak­ing part in the pro­gramme.

SLABSA en­vi­sions to take the game to ev­ery district in the is­land and they see the de­vel­op­ment of coaches as in­te­gral to achiev­ing that tar­get. SLABSA hope to con­duct fur­ther such pro­grammes around Sri Lanka in the com­ing months.
