ANGELA READY WITH MAIDEN FILM
Newest tele drama to release on small screen soon
Well-known tele drama producer Angela Kuruppu whose tele dramas have been showered with accolades, is now ready to release her maiden film production titled ‘Viya Sidura’ in addition to her newest tele drama ‘Sihina Pura’ which is due to unspool soon on a state television channel. Angela who is known for her passion to produce quality creations, never hesitates to cast talented and the right artistes in her creations.
“All my tele dramas like Medi Sina, Wishva Sankranthiya, Sikuru Lanthe and others were well received by the audiences too largely because of the quality in every department. My newest tele drama ‘Sihina Pura’ directed by Suranjan Wijenama has a popular cast playing the key roles. It is slotted for release soon,” said Angela.
“Today, especially tele drama producers like me who always aim at quality productions, are getting a raw deal because most of the time we don’t even cover our costs. Television channels must have some guideline to identify quality productions and make a decent payment. We don’t even recover our costs at times. A transparent system must be introduced by state and private channels to identify good tele dramas. Today we are clueless about who previews the tele dramas, the criterion on which points are given and on what grounds are payment for tele dramas decided upon.

There should be a benchmark so that even we could further improve our production quality. On the one hand small screen audiences are virtually starving without good creations, but producers who strive to make good, people-friendly tele productions are not encouraged. I also feel that producers must be protected by every stakeholder in this sphere including channels, directors, artistes and technicians. It is the producer who takes all the risks,” said Angela who is now making her debut as a film producer.

“My first film production ‘Viya Sidura’ is now ready for release. I made this movie to help a group of university students of the Kelaniya University. Impressed by the script, I financed the project purely on merit. Shalani Tharaka, Lakshman Mendis, Dharmapriya Dias, Kalana Gunasekara, Thumindu Dodanthenna and others play the main roles in this movie directed by Prabath Angampuli,” said Angela.
Angela who is now working on a new tele drama project with Lakshman Pushpakumara, says it is going to be a psychological thriller based on her own plot.
