Prof. Udith Jayasinghe appointed as Wayamba University Vice-chancellor
President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has appointed Senior Professor Udith K. Jayasinghe as the new ViceChancellor of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of SANASA Life Insurance and SANASA General Insurance.
As an eminent administrator, Prof. Jayasinghe was invited to these boards by SANASA Chairman Vishwa Prasadinee Dr. P.A. Kiriwandeniya, in 2013.
Prof. Jayasinghe holds degrees from the University of Peradeniya (Bachelors in Agriculture and Master’s in Agricultural Economics) and University of Guelph, Canada (PHD in Food and Agric. Econ. and Business).
He serves as a Visiting Professor in University of Massachusetts, USA and Monash University, Australia and Quality Assurance Consultant to the Higher Education Ministry of Sri Lanka.
He has been offered a Senior Fellowship by the Staff and Educational Development Association (SFSEDA), United Kingdom. In addition, he has been honoured with ‘Chartered Environmental Professional’ membership of the Institute of Environmental Professionals of Sri Lanka and ‘Certified Development Project Management’ membership of the Project Management for Development Organisations in the USA.
He holds t he honorary membership of 17 national and international organisations. Prof. Jayasinghe has published widely in the areas of food and agricultural economics and agribusiness management, environmental and resource economics as well as teaching-learning, assessment and skills development in higher education and has led and contributed to a large number of national and international consultative projects targeting capacity development, monitoring and evaluation and information dissemination.
He was a recipient of the Presidential Awards for Scientific Research in 2007, 2010 and 2011 and has received a number of national and international awards, including NRC Merits Award for Scientific Publications offered by National Research Council in 2010, SUSRED Award for Supervision of Postgraduate Research Degrees by National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka in 2014, Young Scientists Award for Popularisation and Promotion of Science offered by the National Science and Technology Commission of Sri Lanka, Technology and Research Ministry of Sri Lanka in 2011 and Young Scientists Award for Excellence in Research offered by t he National Science and Technology Commission of Sri Lanka, Technology and Research Ministry of Sri Lanka in 2010.
