CSE records highest number of trades in 9 years

The indices closed in red as a result of price losses in counters such as Carson Cumberbatc­h, John Keells Holdings and Ceylon Cold Stores with the turnover crossing Rs. 5.0 bn, the highest recorded since January 2020.

Furthermor­e, CSE recorded 41,688 trades during the day, the highest recorded in 9 years. Mixed interest was observed mainly in Expolanka Holdings, R I L Property and Piramal Glass.

Foreign participat­ion in the market remained at subdued levels with foreigners closing as net buyers. S i m i l a r l y, institutio­nal investor participat­ion remained subdued for the day.

Materials sector was the top contributo­r to the market turnover (due to Piramal Glass and Tokyo Cement Company nonvoting), whilst the sector index gained 6.59%. The share price of Piramal Glass moved up by Rs. 2.00 (40.00%) to close at Rs. 7.00.

The share price of Tokyo Cement Company non voting recorded a gain of Rs. 3.70 (7.33%) to close at Rs. 54.20. Transporta­tion sector was the second highest contributo­r to the market turnover (due to Expolanka

Holdings), whilst the sector index increased by 4.17%.

The share price of Expolanka Holdings increased by Rs. 0.70 (4.19%) to close at Rs. 17.40. R I L Property and Sierra Cables were also included amongst the top turnover contributo­rs.

Furthemore, the share price of R I L Property gained Rs. 0.50 (5.38%) to close at Rs. 9.80, whilst the share price of Sierra Cables appreciate­d by Rs. 0.50 (10.20%) to close at Rs. 5.40.
