STEAM activities for kids

-

Shafnaz is a stay at home mom raising two kids; son Aamir who is 5 and daughter Thahira who is 3. From the time they were only a few months old Shafnaz has been carrying out interesting activities for them.

She surfs the web daily looking for unconventional ways to teach new things. She uses easy to find items for these activities. She conducts simple science experiments, studying the human body, animals, world map, oceans, space, simple machines etc and they can already talk about planets, the formation of rainbows and other interesting concepts. She also finds interesting and easy ways to teach seemingly complex math concepts through activities. Coming from an engineering background herself, she has taught them activities that include problem solving, planning, designing and creating innovative structures. They also do art activities such as splat painting, magnet painting, cling film art, fizzy painting etc.

During COVID-19 she thought of creating her own Instagram page where she shares these activities, hoping it would benefit and inspire other parents who are homeschooling their kids amidst the pandemic.

These STEAM activities (Science, Tech, Engineering, Art, Math) helps improve critical thinking, concentration, and problem solving skills, in addition to harnessing their creativity and keeping them occupied.
