Death of suspect in custody

• THE TWO POLICE OFFICERS WERE INTERDICTED ON THE FINDINGS OF PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION

A Police inspector,and a sergeant attached to the Pugoda Police were interdicted in connection with the suspicious death of a person in custody.

A senior official of the Gampaha SP’S office said the two Police officers were interdicted on the findings of a preliminary investigation and that they would be liable to action on the charge of neglect of duty and criminal assault.

The suspect A.G. Pushpakumara (21) who had been arrested on October 12, died on admission to hospital that night.
