Spider-man: Just Rumours?

Fans were buzzing earlier this week over rumors that original Spider-man star Tobey Maguire and The Amazing Spider-man star Andrew Garfield would return alongside Tom Holland for Spider-man 3, but Sony has issued a strange statement.

Sony Pictures issued a statement to ET Canada on Thursday, revealing, 'Those rumoured castings are not confirmed.' However, the studio did not outright deny that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield may return.

If the news is ultimately confirmed sometime in the future, it wouldn't be terribly surprising, for a number of reasons. The last Spider-man movie, 2019's Spider-man: Far From Home, confirmed the existence of the 'multiverse' in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will seemingly be explored further.
