The AIDS Foundation Lanka First Charity Luncheon

The AIDS Foundation Lanka hosted a charity luncheon on Thursday (1) at the Thai Cuisine Boulevard, for patrons supporting the Foundation since its inception. The event was graced by several trustees and those who want to support persons living with HIV/ AIDS. This was the first charity luncheon to raise funds for the welfare and upkeep of those infected with HIV family members.

The trustee and one of the main organizers of the charity luncheon, Dr Pramilla Senanayake said, “It was an amazing turnout at the charity event, we are collecting funds to support those afflicted and affected with HIV/AIDS and to create awareness among communitie­s”.

Since its inception in 2008, the AIDS Foundation Lanka has been funding itself with various donors contributi­ng from Lanka and abroad. For almost 12 years the Foundation has been selfsustai­ning but has decided to reach to the public for support, with the growing expense of medicine and

essentials, which has increased during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Director, of the AIDS Foundation Sujatha Samarakoon, said, “Due to the lack of funds, we have decided to organize the charity lunch and we thank all who came forward to support us, including the sponsors and the money from this will go to support more than 30 people living with HIV/AIDS and their families in the coming months”.

The Foundation will be organizing further charity galas for fundraisin­g in the coming months and conducting programmes for World AIDS Day in December .
