Ruhunu Hospital invests Rs.1.5bn in new wing Ruhunu 2.0

Ruhunu Hospital, a leading private sector healthcare provider in the Southern province, with a rich history of more than 25 years, launched its latest investment in a state-of-theart, nine-storied, 100,000 sqft modern facility themed Ruhunu 2.0 (Newer l Better l Stronger).

The facility has 50+ channel rooms, 50+ in- patient beds, out-patient department (OPD) and emergency treatment unit (ETU), pharmacy, phlebotomy room (blood and urine sample collection), radiology department, two operation rooms, two ultra luxury suites (Kings Court and Presidenti­al Suite) and as a novel introducti­on, the Ruhunu Admission and Informatio­n Centre is first of its kind in the province.

A structured team assists consultant­s and patients in giving correct informatio­n and assisting the patients through his or her in- patient experience from inception till departure. In the first stage, five floors will be opened for services.

With more than 150 experience­d visiting consultant­s in all specialtie­s along with an experience­d and qualified nursing team hailing from both private and government sector will provide a world-class patient care and treatment at Ruhunu 2.0.

Ruhunu Hospital (Pvt.) Ltd CO-CEO Raveen Wickramasi­nghe said, “Ruhunu 2.0 is a project that we created putting the patients’ needs first. Priority was given for cross ventilatio­n, unique designs and ample space for movement, which has enhanced the patient experience drasticall­y. The design detail is simply elegant. During the ‘Public

Open Week’, visitors were amazed to see a building of this nature in Sri Lanka. Some even asked me if we opened a hotel or a hospital. I am a great believer that the patientcen­tric design has made a significan­t positive impact on all stakeholde­rs.”

“In due course, the two Ultra Luxury Suites with more than 1100 sqft of space will be opened. These two rooms will be catering to all premium customers who want to appreciate that comfort in their stay at Ruhunu Hospital. A corporate office will also be opened in Colombo to assist patients with in-patient treatments from the Western province,” he said.

Furthermor­e, it was the first private hospital outside of Colombo to have a Neuro

Microscope with the capacity to provide treatment for those diagnosed with various neurologic­al health challenges.

The hospital was also the first to start dialysis and kidney transplant­s, fertility treatment including IVF and investing in CT scanners and other radiology divisions in the private sector.

Over the years Ruhunu Hospital Diagnostic­s, a sister company of the Ruhunu Hospital, has steadily set up an extensive network of medical laboratori­es across Galle, Udugama, Baddegama, Neluwa and Tangalle to provide preliminar­y medical services and laboratory services for the patients by being the only Iso-certified laboratory in the Southern province. A mobile app has also been set up for channellin­g services/obtaining test results and an SMS alerts service on report collection times.

Speaking further, Wickramasi­nghe added that Ruhunu Hospital will be investing in digitisati­on in a serious manner as it would increase efficiency of the business.

Ruhunu Hospital also holds a minority stake in South Asian-based Credence Genomics, a pioneer in commercial­ising genomic tests for both communicab­le and non-communicab­le diseases, which offers advanced genetic analysis services to individual­s, healthcare profession­als and researcher­s.

With the launch of Ruhunu 2.0, it is clear that the vision is to create a premium service hospital for the whole nation and make Karapitiya a prominent name when it comes to healthcare in Sri Lanka.
