Lest we forget

- LESLIE N.ABEYASEKERA, SCHOOL LANE,NAWALA.

As Sri Lankans was love our country.we have to seriously give thought to why we are in this sad situation where the Tamils feel they are marginalised.the full blame for this situation has to be taken by our politicians who have brought this country to what it is today. It started with S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike who made Sinhalese the Official State Language within twenty four hours. Further there were Catholic Nuns who were serving in hospitals and looking after the sick and needy free of charge.

Their visas were not renewed and sent back to their countries. He did not want them to corrupt our countrymen with Christianity while he himself was born a Christian and changed himself to be a Buddhist; to enter politics.

The people in the villages assumed that their ‘Time had Arrived’- when the politicians went to Parliament, sat in the speakers chair, went to the ‘Resthouse’ ate and drank and when the bill was presented walked off saying “Than Ape Anduwa” (it’s our regime now).

They travelled by Train and pulled the emergency chain near their houses, and when the train stopped got down and walked to their houses saying ‘now it is our Government’. The ‘Rot’ had begun. Today the present Government brings murders and convicts to Parliament on the grounds they have appealed against their convictions.

Presently cigarette smoking in public is not encouraged; however a businessman was loaned a large sum of money from a State Bank to import cigarettes. Our Forests are bulldozed and their valuable trees are cut for timber without checks and balances. So “Ape Anduwa has arrived”. God Bless and Save our Country.
