National Federations enriched by Special ANOC Fund
The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), through the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), distributed funds to NOCS that are facing the biggest challenges and needs in achieving their tasks due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Accordingly, the NOC of Sri Lanka (NOCSL) assisted federations that requested assistance through the said fund.altogether 15 federations benefited through this project.thirteen federations responded requesting equipment by the given deadline and were given laptops at a ceremony held at the Hemasiri Fernando auditorium at Olympic House yesterday.
The national federations are Equestrian, Gymnastics, Handball, Judo, Karate, Roller Skating, Surfing, Table Tennis,taekwondo,triathlon,wrestling,yachting and Baseball (pending due to their outstanding amounts to IOC). The Weightlifting Federation requested a washing machine for the use of national pool athletes and the Basketball Association requested assistance for their administration expenses.
Also, additional funding was requested through the same project to assist athletes in their preparation to qualify for Tokyo 2021.
The training costs for judoka Chamara Dharmawardhana in Slovenia for six months and for the participation in two Olympic qualifiers, the training cost for Chamara Milinda in Mongolia for six months and two Olympic qualifiers and also the training cost for athlete W.K.L. Nimal (800m) locally for six months and Olympic qualifier are some of the costs federations have requested to be covered. The six months overseas training for athlete Sumedha Ranasinghe (Javelin Throw) and two Olympic qualifiers has also been requested.
There has been a request for assistance for badminton star Niluka Karunaratne to participate in eight Olympic qualifiers and the six months overseas training for weightlifter Indika Dissanayake and Olympic qualifier.
