IS WIJEDASA IN A SOUP?
As for me, this news, where MP Wijedasa Rajapaksa says the proposed Port City Economic Commission, would transform the reclaimed land adjacent to the Galle Face Green into a Chinese territory, is not surprising as I had dealt with this subject and warned the government the reclaimed land sold to China will be a Chinese Colony, being a swimming distance from the mainland and adverse effects in our internal and external affairs.
The worst is the outright sale of 265 hectares of land reclaimed from the sea at Galle Face. Surely China will not make this land to lay idle. It will certainly turn it to a vital hub, may be commercial or most likely a military base. Haven’t the unpatriotic political leaders unknowingly and probably knowingly not only made this region vulnerable but also their interference in our local administration, being proximity [swimming distance] would be a threat. The interference may in time to come will be as we see and hear of Chinese intervention in Hong Kong, where students claim China’s suppression of freedom of speech and other democratic rights.
Our power-hungry political leaders too dense to learn lessons, not caring two pence about strengthening China’s presence have recently tried to award a tender for the construction of Kerawalapitiya LNG Plant though a local company quoted a lower figure….”
Do not forget, China has already acquired the most precious valuable land of six acres at Galle Face where once stood the Army Head Quarters. The Hambantota harbour and 15000 acres of land at Hambantota on a 99-year lease to set up an Industrial Estate, where Chinese will be employed and after 99 years what will our future generations face is matter that should be the concern of the present-day leaders. China is eyeing another vital sector and that is Power and Energy. China once offered to run the plant at Norachcholai, which was frequently breaking down. This the CEB Engineers vehemently opposed and upheld by the then Minister for Power and Energy. The present move is to have a Joint Venture on the proposed 4th additional plant, which too CEB Engineers have protested. We are already sunk nose deep, and will the passing of this alleged controversial Bill see the final rites.
