Turkish envoy to attend NCC bilateral trade session
Ambassador of Turkey to Sri Lanka, R. Demet Sekercioglu will be the Special Guest Speaker at a session on ‘Bilateral trade between Sri Lanka & Turkey’ on April 23 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the National Chamber Auditorium, Colombo 10.
The participants will get an opportunity to have a close dialogue with the Ambassador of Turkey.
Further, Turkish commercial counselor Aysun Timur will be joining the meeting via zoom. The overall purpose of this meeting is to discuss on the current trade environment, investment opportunities/ services, policies and other important information with the view to promote and strengthen bilateral trade and investment between Sri Lanka and Turkey. Turkey was the 10th export market for Sri Lanka with a share of 2.11 percent in 2020. The main items exported from Sri Lanka to Turkey in 2020 were tea, vegetable textile fibres, apparel, used pneumatic tyres, man-made staple fibres, activated carbon, new pneumatic tyres, apparel accessories, lead oxides, misc. articles of base metal, misc. edible preparations, desiccated coconut.
For further expansion of Sri Lanka’s exports to Turkey, identified potential items are apparel, articles of vulcanised rubber, gloves, mittens and mitts, impregnated, coated or covered with plastics or rubber, vessels for the transport of goods and vessels for the transport of both persons and goods, diamonds, worked, but not mounted or set (excl. industrial diamonds), preparations of a kind used in animal feeding (excl. dog or cat food put up for retail sale).
Turkey was the 28th import partner of Sri Lanka with a share of 0.59 percent in 2020. The main items imported from Turkey to Sri Lanka in 2020 were onions, nuclear reactors, knitted or crocheted fabrics, electrical transformers, manmade staple fibres, Iron and steel, other imports, cotton, plastics, refrigerators, wheat, miscellaneous edible preparations.
