Over 60 per cent investment zone employees vaccinated: BOI Chairman

Chairman of the Board of Investment Board Sanjaya Mohottala said more than 60 per cent of the employees in the investment­s zones had been vaccinated against COVID-19.

The BOI Chairman who declared opened COVID Intermedia­te Care Centre in Katunayaka, Free Trade Zone he said the vaccinatin­g the employees in the BOI investment projects were continuing and that the vaccinatio­n programme in all BOI investment projects in the eastern province was complete.

The Intermedia­te Care Centre comprising 500 beds is complete with all facilities for the infected, the doctors and the staff. The project costing Rs.25 million was funded by the BOI and the Free Trade Zone Manufactur­er Associatio­n.

“Prevention of the spread of the pandemic in the investment­s zones has shown a rapid improvemen­t. The rate of positive cases reported from the investment zones has reduced in a large proportion when compared to the previous situation. All employees in factories under the BOI will be given the first dose within the next two weeks, and the second dose by the end of the next month.” The BOI Chairman further said. Deputy Director of the BOI Mjr. Gen. (Rtd) Jagath Gunawarden­e, Executive Director M.k.d.laurance, Medical Officer of the Negombo General Hospital Dr. Nirmala Yoganathan, President of the Free Trade Zone Manufactur­er Associatio­n Jinendra Biyila and Secretary Dhammika Fernando were present at the occasion.
