Next month extremely crucial says Army Chief

Public behaviour to play a vital role in reopening Authoritie­s had set up a comprehens­ive plan on functionin­g of the services after reopening the country

The behaviour of people in the month of October would play a vital role in deciding the destiny of the country in the next few months in terms of the COVID-19 situation, Army Commander Shavendra Silva said. Speaking to the Daily Mirror he said the authoritie­s had set up a comprehens­ive plan on functionin­g the services after reopening the country.“we have been closely monitoring the COVID19

situation in the country and that we could see a major decrease in the number of infections and fatalities,” he said.

“Accordingl­y, we are looking forward to reopening the country under several stages in order to prevent larger gatherings that might give rise to new cases,” the Army Chief added.

Gen. Silva said that the public behavior is very crucial during the course of next month if the country is opened from October 1. He said authoritie­s will issue recommenda­tions on how to maintain services in the public and private sector.
