Barge carrying coal loses course due to gusty winds

A barge carrying a consignmen­t of coal to the Lakvijaya thermal power complex in Norochchol­ai had lost its course due to the gale force wind experience­d on Sunday night (26) and drifted ashore to Ilanthidiy­a.

Manager of the power complex Engineer Nalaka Wijekoon said the barge operator had lost control of it due to the stormy wind. He said the barge more than 100ft. long, owned by an Indian shipping line, was carrying a consignmen­t of 2,000 metric tons of coal from ships, when it lost its course.
