There are 642 properties in Cinnamon Gardens of which the owners are known while there are around 50 unregistered properties, data put out by the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) said yesterday. As per the data put out by the CMC these properties are located in Barnes Place, Wijerama Mawatha, Albert Crescent, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Arcadia Gardens, Arunachalam Avenue, Baptist Chapel Road, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Borella Cross Road, Cambridge Terrace, Cambridge Place, Cosmos Avenue, Cumaratunga Munidasa Mawatha, Dharmapala

Mawatha, Premasiri Kemadasa Mawatha, C.W.W.Kannangara Mawatha, Dudley Senanayake Mawatha, De Saram Place, F. R Senanayake Avenue, Flower Avenue, Gregory’s Road, Horton Place, Heva Avenue, Independence Square, Independence Avenue, Kynsey Road, Maitland Crescent, Maradana Road, Philip Gunawardene Mawatha, Gnanartha Pradeepaya Mawatha, Professor Nandadasa Kodagoda Mawatha, Rajakiya Mawatha, D. S Senanayake Mawatha, Rosemead Place, Marcus Fernando Mawatha, Earnest de Silva Mawatha and Ward place

As per the data put out by CMC website around 117 properties of Ward Place are without owners while three are unregistered. There are 30 properties without an owner in Rosemead Place with one unregistered property, 80 in Barnes Place, 42 from Gregory’s Road, 42 in Horton Place with one unregistered property, 28 in Independence Squire and Independence Avenue

CMC Commissioner Roshanie Dissanayake told Daily Mirror that the issue is that most of the house owners get someone else to pay the rates and the name recorded with the CMC is the name of the payer. “Some people get their drivers to pay the rates and the driver’s name has been recorded by the CMC as the owner. There is a minister as well who had sent another person to pay his rates with the money and that person’s name has been written down as the owner of the property. We advise the property owners to come and pay the rates themselves,” she said. She said a process has already been started to rectify the issue.
