Young population massively contribute to virus transmissi­on: Epidemiolo­gy Chief

● Requests youngsters not to be deceived by false reports that vaccinatio­n leads to sexual dysfunctio­n and male infertilit­y as there was no truth in them

While highlighti­ng the less enthusiasm shown by youngsters in getting jabbed,chief Epidemiolo­gist Dr Samitha Ginige said the young population exceptiona­lly contribute to virus transmissi­on as they frequently move about in society.

He told media yesterday that it is a social responsibi­lity of young population from 20 to 30 to receive the COVID vaccine.

“Even though 50 percent of total young population from 20 to 30 has received their vaccines out of 3.3 million population, we are yet to see much interest from them,” he underscore­d.

“When considerin­g the total number of infections, 90 percent is from the age group from 20 to 60. In addition, 96 deaths have also been reported from age group from 20 to 30,” he pointed out.
