COMPENSATE FARMERS WHO SUFFERED LOSSES

Farmers have been hoodwinked by the government who compelled them to use organic fertilizer not recommended for paddy

- BY YOHAN PERERA

Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa said his party together with paddy farmers will file a fundamental rights case in the Supreme Courts demanding compensation for the losses the latter has suffered due to the fertilizer mafia.

Premadasa said this when some paddy farmers in Lunugamvehera informed him that their harvest had been reduced due to the use of organic fertilizer.

“The farmers have been hoodwinked by the government who compelled them to use organic fertilizer which is not recommended for paddy,” he said.

“The government has given into the paddy mafia by allowing them to decide on the prices. We will take to the streets against such moves,” he added.
