Nord Stream 2 pipeline filled with gas for first time

The pipeline has to be filled with gas before supplies can start flowing

-

BERLIN (DPA), 4OCT,2021- The controversial Nord Stream 2 pipeline has started being filled with gas, the company said on Monday.

The pipeline, which was completed last month, is expected to deliver 55 billion cubic metres of gas per year from Russia through the Baltic Sea to Germany. According to the operating company, this will supply 26 million households.

The pipeline has to be filled with gas before supplies can start flowing.

The project has strained trans-atlantic unity, with critics warning against European energy dependence on Russia. Ukraine has been particularly irate over the project because it will lose out on lucrative transit fees.
