Additional state land allocated for commercialisation of Lotus Tower

-

The government has decided to allocate additional land for the commercialisation and monitoring activities of the Chinese-funded Lotus Tower project, including setting up of a modern water park.

The Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has planned several development acclivities in the surrounding area of the Lotus Tower, in order to make it a tourist attraction.

Accordingly, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Technology Minister this week sought the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers to transfer a land parcel in extent of four acres, three roods and 24.47 perches, located adjacent to the Lotus Tower, from the Urban Development Authority (UDA) to the TRCSL.

Construction of a modern water park and staff infrastructure facilities is among the plans outlined by the TRCSL.

Built at a cost of US $ 104.3 million, funded by the EXIM Bank of China, the 350-meter tall tower was declared opened in late 2019. However, the commercial operations of the project are yet to commence.
